International Talk Like a Pirate Day began in 2002 when two friends decided speaking in Pirate lingo was more fun and that fun was just what the world needed. Fun is definitely what the world needs at the moment!

So, in the spirit of Talk Like a Pirate Day, why not try out your best pirate joke on your family? Or, pay a visit to one of the following sites to join in the fun:

On a more serious note, while speaking 'piratey' is all fun and games, piracy certainly is not. In terms of copyright, piracy refers to any unauthorised reproduction of a copyright owner's work. This might be a good time to make sure you know how to make sure you reference any information you use in your assignments and credit the original source of the information.

Not sure how to do that?

The University of Melbourne has developed some helpful resources on why and how we should reference information. These resources can be found here.

Latrobe University has also created this short, helpful video about the ethical use of information.

Enjoy International Talk Like a Pirate Day and have a restful break,

P.S. Why are pirates pirates? Because the ARRRRR!
